Renovation grants in Brussels: what is left of Rénolution?
According to the official websites, on 19-10-2026 no Rénolution grant application can be submitted for final invoices dated 2025 or 2026. Here is what the official sources say, what you can still apply for in Uccle and Watermael-Boitsfort, and where to look in Forest and Ixelles.
This guide is an adaptation of the French guide. The official sources in French and Dutch, cited at the end of the page, take precedence. Read the guide in French
In this guide
If you are looking for a renovation grant in Brussels, or for "Rénolution", start with this: according to the official websites, on 19-10-2026 no application for a Rénolution grant (called a "premium" on renolution.brussels) can be submitted for works whose final invoice is dated 2025 or 2026. This guide explains what that means for a project in Uccle (Ukkel in Dutch), Forest, Ixelles or Watermael-Boitsfort, what support exists all the same (municipal grants, loans, VAT, heritage support, free advice) and how to check where things stand before you sign a quote. Quotations from official pages in this guide are our translation from the French.
Key points
- According to be.brussels, on 19-10-2026: "no grant application can be submitted for final invoices dated 2025 or 2026".
- According to renolution.brussels, on 19-10-2026: there is "no government decision regarding any new forms of financial support for renovation".
- Other support does exist: municipal grants (Uccle, Watermael-Boitsfort), the ECORENO loan, 6% VAT under conditions, heritage support and free advice from Homegrade.
- Never count on a grant that is not open: check before you sign, and keep quotes, invoices and proof of payment.
Where do the Rénolution grants stand?
The Rénolution grants are the Brussels regional scheme which, according to be.brussels, has since 1 January 2022 brought together the former energy grants, the housing renovation grants and the facade embellishment grants. Its main portal is renolution.brussels.
What do the official pages say today? We reread three sources on 19-10-2026; their wording is identical to that of our first reading on 03-10-2026.
- The renolution.brussels home page shows, in an information box: "To date, there is no government decision regarding any new forms of financial support for renovation. As soon as we have further information, it will be published on this website."
- The "Les primes Rénolution" page on the same site states that it "concerns only grant applications with a final invoice dated 2024, for which applications are closed".
- The Region's page on be.brussels says: "To date, there is no government decision regarding any RENOLUTION grants for 2025 and/or 2026. At this stage, no grant application can be submitted for final invoices dated 2025 or 2026."
Homegrade, the regional advice centre, writes on its page about financial incentives that the RENOLUTION renovation grants for 2026 are not yet known and that it has "no information on the 2025 RENOLUTION grants".
How should you read this wording? The official sources do not say "abolished", nor do they say "reinstated": they say "no decision". The 2024 scheme is closed, and no new scheme is announced on these pages. Press articles that give a precise date for a return are not an official source, and we have not relied on any of them for this guide. A Test-Achats article updated on 15-10-2026 recalls the background (applications frozen in the summer of 2024, then reopened in the autumn for 2024 invoices only) and takes the view, in words we translate from the French, that "the new Brussels government does not seem to be planning to introduce a new grant scheme or a revised version of it". That is the assessment of a consumer organisation, not a decision by the administration, and the official pages reread on 19-10-2026 still speak of no decision.
What the last edition covered (2024 invoices)
The last edition is closed, but it is still worth knowing: it gives an idea of what a future scheme might look like, although nobody can say it will keep these rules. According to the official page on the 2024 grants:
- they were limited to buildings in the Brussels-Capital Region, whatever the municipality or neighbourhood;
- the building had to be more than 10 years old, with the extract from the land register (matrice cadastrale) as the authoritative proof;
- the works had to be carried out by a company bound to the applicant by a contract for works, registered with the BCE (Crossroads Bank for Enterprises, the Belgian company register), registered for VAT and meeting the professional access requirements;
- you applied after the works, within 12 months of the last final invoice, through the IRISbox online counter;
- you could not apply again for the same grant for identical works within 10 years;
- amounts depended on income, household composition and type of applicant; some grants were flat-rate, others proportional to the invoice.
The portal's search engine for financial support sorted the 2024 grants by type of work: energy audit, roof (structure, covering, insulation), healthy housing (damp, fungi), facades, doors and windows, floors, heating, ventilation, electrical installation and so on. Every one of these lines carries the label "2024". We do not give the amounts here: they belong to a closed period, and quoting them would amount to promising they will be renewed.
If you have a 2024 file still in progress, the official page says to follow its status directly on IRISbox; this guide cannot tell you anything about your own file.
What is still open: an overview
The renolution.brussels portal states that "many municipal, regional and federal schemes exist" and that most of this support can be combined. The table below only covers what we reread on 19-10-2026; each line points to the body concerned for the current conditions.
| Scheme | Who it is for | Status read on 19-10-2026 | Where to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rénolution grants | Private individuals, landlords, co-ownerships | No application possible for invoices dated 2025 or 2026; no decision announced | renolution.brussels, be.brussels |
| Uccle municipal grants (6) | Uccle residents | Listed on the municipality's page | uccle.be, energy desk (guichet énergie) |
| Watermael-Boitsfort water grant | Households in the municipality | Listed on the municipality's page | watermael-boitsfort.be |
| ECORENO loan | Owners, future owners, tenants | Page active, 2026 rates announced | fonds.brussels |
| 6% VAT on certain works | Homes more than 10 years old, invoiced to the end consumer | Conditions set out by be.brussels | FPS Finance ("SPF Finances") |
| Support for protected buildings and minor heritage | Owners of listed buildings or of minor heritage visible from the street | Pages active | patrimoine.brussels |
| Free advice | Tenants, owners, co-owners | Service described as free | Homegrade, Réseau Habitat |
Two more schemes appear in the portal's list but are not aimed at an ordinary owner-occupier. FinanceClick, according to its page, is for Brussels public bodies with non-residential buildings ("Private individuals [...] are not covered"), and the ENERGY&RENO loan is for small businesses and the self-employed.
Municipal grants: Uccle and Watermael-Boitsfort
Each municipality sets its own rules. This is what their official pages said on 19-10-2026.
Uccle: six environmental grants
The municipality of Uccle offers six grants: a top-up to the Rénolution grants for external doors and windows, and grants for a natural pond, a solar water heater, a rainwater tank, a green roof and rainwater infiltration into the ground. It states that these six grants "can be combined". The amounts shown are:
- solar water heater: €500 with a contractor, €250 if you do the work yourself;
- rainwater tank (installation, renovation or bringing back into use): €500 with a contractor, €250 if you do the work yourself;
- green roof: €200 for 10 m², then €15 per additional m² of intensive planting or €10 per m² of extensive planting, up to €500 in total; the amount is halved if the applicant does the work themselves;
- rainwater infiltration: €200 for 25 m² of connected sealed surface, then €4 per additional m², up to €500 in total; the amount is halved if you do the work yourself;
- natural pond: 50% of the price, up to a maximum of €150, plus €50 if the pond is built by a social economy, sheltered employment or social integration enterprise.
One point to watch: the municipal grant for doors and windows is set at "30% of the 'RENOLUTION' grants G1 and G2", capped at €500. Because it is calculated from regional grants that are not currently open to new invoices, the municipality's text does not make clear whether it can be obtained without a regional grant. Ask at the energy desk before you order new windows. For the technical and planning side of windows, see our guide to windows in an old house.
The Uccle energy desk is listed at rue de Stalle 77. You can reach it on 02 605 13 56 or by email at guichetenergie@uccle.brussels (contact details taken from the municipality's page).
Watermael-Boitsfort: the water grant
The municipality's page describes a grant of 75% of the purchase price of a rainwater butt (and accessories), up to €100 per household. According to the same text, it also covers repairing an existing installation or buying ollas (oyas), within the same limit. The page states that only one grant is awarded per property.
Forest and Ixelles
We have not read any municipal grant rules for Forest or for Ixelles, so we do not quote any. The safest course is to ask the municipality's environment or energy department which grants are open this year.
Paying for the works and reducing the bill: ECORENO, VAT, heritage
The ECORENO loan
The ECORENO loan is offered by the "Fonds du Logement" (Brussels housing fund) of the Brussels-Capital Region. According to its page, depending on the assessment of the file, it is either a mortgage loan or a consumer loan, and it is open to owners, future owners and tenants. Be.brussels mentions a preferential rate of 2.5% to 3.5%, and the Fund's page states that rates "are subject to change in line with developments on the financial market".
A few reference points from that page: the maximum term is 30 years for the mortgage loan and 10 years for the consumer loan; for the consumer loan, the amount borrowed ranges from €1,500 to €25,000, and several loans can be taken out up to a total outstanding amount of €25,000; the property must be in one of the 19 Brussels municipalities; income ceilings apply. The exact scale depends on household composition and changes over time: use the simulation and the scale on the Fund's website rather than relying on a figure copied from elsewhere.
6% VAT
Be.brussels points out that, for certain renovation works, an owner, or in some cases a tenant, can pay 6% VAT instead of 21%, provided certain conditions are met, starting with these: the home was built more than 10 years ago, it is used exclusively or mainly as a private dwelling, and the works are invoiced directly to the end consumer. Other conditions apply; the page refers to FPS Finance. Ask your contractor to confirm the rate that applies to your works before you sign the quote.
Heritage support
If your house is protected, or if it has an element of minor heritage visible from the street, three schemes run by the Cultural Heritage department of urban.brussels may apply:
- grants for conservation works on a listed building ("classé"): for private beneficiaries, the administration gives base rates of 40% or 50% for works on the external envelope, with possible increases in some cases; preliminary studies are "always subsidised at 80%", for public and private beneficiaries alike; all within the limits of the available budget;
- restoration of unprotected minor heritage: 50% of the cost of the works excluding VAT for a private applicant, up to €10,000 per building per 5-year period; according to the page, "this rate may be increased by 25%" if income is below €40,000 a year (+ €2,500 per dependant) or if the building is in a neighbourhood revitalisation area in force, in which case the grant may not exceed €15,000 per building; the support is granted "within the limits of the available budgets";
- a reduction in property tax (précompte immobilier) for protected buildings used mainly as homes that are not let (or as certain public facilities): 25% if the facade is protected, more if an agreement on public access is signed.
This support does not replace the permit: working on a protected building requires a specific authorisation (see planning permits in Brussels and Brussels character houses).
Getting free advice
The Rénolution portal describes free, personalised support for administrative questions (grants, permits, obligations) as well as technical ones. For a private individual, it names two points of contact:
- Homegrade, the housing advice and support centre for the Brussels-Capital Region, which advises "free of charge" on grants, energy, renovation, heritage, acoustics and urban planning (phone number given by the portal: +32 (0)2 219 40 60);
- the Réseau Habitat (literally "housing network") which, according to the portal, covers Forest (Une Maison en Plus) and Ixelles (SoHab), among others. Uccle and Watermael-Boitsfort are not on this network's list of municipalities on the page we read; for these two municipalities, Homegrade remains the named point of contact.
Landlords can also find out about the Agences Immobilières Sociales (AIS, social rental agencies): the portal states that an AIS "opens access to considerably higher RENOLUTION grants". However, on 19-10-2026 no Rénolution grant is open to new invoices, so this extra cannot be counted on for a current project.
Planning works while no grant is open
Without prejudging what the Region will decide, a few precautions follow from the rules we read:
- Do not build your budget on a hypothetical grant. Support that is not open cannot be reserved.
- Keep every document: quotes, contract, invoices, proof of payment, certificates. In the last edition, you applied after the works, on the basis of the invoices.
- Check that the company is registered with the BCE: this was a condition in the last edition, and it is a simple check before signing in any case.
- Have the applicable VAT rate (6% or 21%) confirmed in writing on the quote.
- Ask the municipality about its grants before you order, not afterwards: it is for the municipality to say whether a grant can be combined or depends on regional support.
- Check the planning rules first: a grant or a loan does not exempt you from a permit where one is needed. Our guide to renovating in Uccle and our guide to roof works explain the steps in detail.
Frequently asked questions
Have the Rénolution grants been abolished?
The official sources do not say that. They say that, on 19-10-2026, there is no government decision on new forms of support, and that no application can be submitted for invoices dated 2025 or 2026. To find out what will be decided, the only reliable source is renolution.brussels.
I paid for works in 2025. Can I still apply for a grant?
According to be.brussels, on 19-10-2026, no: no grant application can be submitted for final invoices dated 2025 or 2026. The official page on the 2024 grants only covers 2024 invoices, and it states that the application period is closed. If your situation is unusual, Homegrade can go through it with you.
Are Uccle's municipal grants still available?
On 19-10-2026 the municipality's page presents them as existing, with amounts. The detailed conditions are in the rules you can download. For the "doors and windows" grant, which is calculated as a percentage of the Rénolution grants, ask the energy desk how it applies today.
Can grants be combined?
The Rénolution portal states that most support can be combined, and the municipality of Uccle states that its six grants can be combined and that some can also be combined with regional support. Each set of rules has its own exceptions: read them before you submit your file.
Where can I find the official list of support schemes?
In the "Aides financières" (financial support) search engine on renolution.brussels, which brings together grants, municipal support, tax benefits, loans and advice services. It listed 94 results when we checked on 03-10-2026, many of them labelled "2024" and therefore closed: check the year shown on each line.
On 19-10-2026 our editors reread the official pages of renolution.brussels, be.brussels, Homegrade, the municipalities of Uccle and Watermael-Boitsfort, the Fonds du Logement and patrimoine.brussels cited above. Statuses, amounts and thresholds change: check with renolution.brussels, your municipality or Homegrade before making any decision about works. This guide is not legal or tax advice.
